Hi there, I'm Emily Rupert. I design by getting into the field, taking notes, sketching ideas, creating interactive prototypes, and eliciting feedback to guide my work.
I have a passion for designing delightful and intuitive user experiences and interfaces. My education and professional experience have provided me with a practical and human-centered way of approaching design.
I grew up in Northern Virginia with a serious interest in making. I earned my BFA from University of Michigan’s School of Art and Design where I developed and refined skills in sketching, modeling, researching, and building full-scale prototypes. After graduation, I designed and made high-end and custom-designed furniture. Although I enjoyed this work, I felt the need to broaden my skills beyond the realm of furniture, so I looked to graduate school as a way to change my focus to industrial design.
During my time at California College of the Arts, I dabbled in graphic and interaction design. I saw a connection between designing the experience around a physical object and designing the experience of a service. Through the interdisciplinary nature of the program at CCA, I transitioned into interaction design. I've been working in the field of mobile interaction design ever since.
Drop me a line if you would like to hear more about my work!
